Thank you for this video! I’m curious what evidence-based treatments you use for trauma, PTSD, and anxiety? What if someone is experiencing somatic symptoms of anxiety? In what way would you clinically address this.
Sarah, this is a great question and glad you liked the video! Steve, along with others of us at RYF, have been in practice for over 20 years, so it is through our experience along with our education and continued trainings that we get much of our information and knowledge from. Regarding somatic symptoms associated with anxiety, we understand that these can be difficult, even though many people with anxiety will experience them along the way. There is usually a lot of benefit in recognizing ones symptoms and being able to call them out for what they are…they is power in something as simple as this. Confusion can increase anxiety, so this can be a starting point. Also, growing in mindfulness and ground techniques can be powerful as well. Lastly, there is a good book called “The Body Keeps the Score” that may be helpful depending on the type and range of somatic symptoms you are experiencing. Please feel free to check out Steve’s book as well, “Walking on Water When You Feel Like You’re Drowning.” We understand that these suggestions may be general and therefore only somewhat applicable. If you’re looking for more specific help, please schedule an appointment with one of our therapists. Thank you and God bless!
