Prior to joining Rock Your Family, Cindy resided in Hot Springs, AR. During her 20 years there, she developed a vast network across educational, clinical, recovery, rehabilitation, civic, court, and local church organizations. Part of Cindy's passion resides with connecting Christ followers to appropriate mental health services, normalizing a "help seeking" mentality that has been traditionally met with stigma. Cindy believes that Jesus' example of introducing hope and healing is a commission for all believers, and that the church represents a lighthouse and hospital for the local community. Being part of a clinical team allows for a deeper bench of support, guidance, encouragement, and safety as difficult aspects of life experience unfold during counseling sessions.
As a native southerner, Cindy enjoys creating a calm, safe environment to aid in the counseling process, giving clients the space and opportunity to think and process out loud. Cindy offers a person-centered approach as God's truth through application of Scripture finds its mark in any and all conversations, situations, challenges, and phase-of-life issues.
Using a brief, solution-focused modality encourages clients to address root-cause over symptom-stuck patterns. Cindy congratulates clients who are ready to begin the healing process, finding themselves "sick and tired of being sick and tired," and who welcome an evaluation of motive and personal responsibility while practicing exercises from a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy framework.
Cindy's art background (BA in Commercial Art and 7 years as an elementary art educator) provides an "out of the box" element of creativity to her clinical practice. She encourages discovering practical, creative activities that unlock expression, help organize and/or release trauma, and provide a platform for healthy coping. Cindy employs the A-B-C's of healing as she assists her clients with stepping out of denial into sustainable options for hope and a future.
Cindy has extensive experience with couples, families, as well as individuals. Her areas of specialization include: communication and mediation, recovery and restoration, grief and honoring loved ones, loneliness and friendship, phase-of-life and adjustment, anxiety and courage, depression and disappointment, discovering purpose and action steps, and applying biblical spirituality to life's questions.
