Heather Houston, LPCC

Heather Houston is a licensed professional counselor candidate with a Master of Arts in Counseling from Adams State University. Heather also received a Master’s degree in Youth Ministries from Memphis Theological Seminary and Bachelor’s degree in Youth Ministries from Eastern University.

Heather specializes in children, teens, and families and has been working with these populations in a variety of capacities for over 15 years. She has a well-rounded educational background in psychology, child and teenage development, ministry, and theology. Prior to entering the counseling field, Heather spent time as a youth director in Tennessee, Pennsylvania, and Colorado. After receiving her counseling degree, she began working as a licensed school counselor at the elementary school level. Most recently, Heather has been working in the clinical counseling setting where she is pursuing the credential to become a Registered Play Therapist.

Heather believes that play facilitates communication, connection, and attachment in children and families. She uses a variety of directive and non-directive play approaches and strategies in her work. She is also passionate about creating healthy familial relationships and helping parents as they navigate different developmental stages and hardships impacting their children. She approaches therapy with family systems and ecosystemic lenses believing that growth and healing are done most effectively within positive family and community relationships.

Originally from Pennsylvania, Heather has dreamed of living in Colorado since her first visit with her college volleyball team back in 2010. She moved to Colorado Springs in 2018 with her husband and dog, and they recently welcomed their first child. In her free time, you can find her hiking, canoeing, hopping in the car for a road trip, or shopping for antiques.
